Foldable Solar Roof: When Engineering Meets Elegance

Switzerland has unveiled the world’s largest foldable solar roof in Uetendorf — a 20,000 m² installation stretched above a wastewater treatment plant, producing 3 GWh of clean electricity each year. By transforming existing infrastructure into renewable energy space, the project demonstrates how smart engineering and circular thinking can unlock climate solutions without claiming new land. As Managing Director Ingo Schoppe puts it, this is “using existing space intelligently” to boost energy security, efficiency, and climate protection.
