Open for less than one year, Six Senses Yao Noi won the Wild Asia Responsible Tourism Award 2008 for Luxury and Boutique Resorts.

Wild Asia awards differ from many awards insomuch as the judges visit all finalist properties and professionally evaluate the operation with the award criteria. These include:

  • sense of place – enriching the visitor’s understanding of the destination.
  • sustainability – ongoing initiatives for the long term.
  • involvement of guests – guest involvement in this sustainability journey.
  • internalisation – how well sustainability efforts are structured into day-to-day operations.
  • reach – sharing of the ideas and practices across the destination or industry.

Wild Asia is a social enterprise working to support the conservation of natural areas and the communities dependent upon their resources. It works primarily by forging partnerships with individuals and businesses that are socially and environmentally responsible. The ultimate goal of Wild Asia is to promote sustainable practices that will minimise adverse impacts on the environment, ensure that local communities are engaged and that local cultures are respected.
